A Brief Overview
The HBO Technician performs hyperbaric oxygen therapy on approved patients. Apply technical and operational knowledge to support the operation, maintenance and safety of a multi-place hyperbaric (HBO) chamber and other hyperbaric support systems, participating in patient care and assisting with all aspects of the HBO/Wound Care Center. We currently treat outpatient and inpatients in our multiplace chamber for a variety of indications. 

Flexible, daytime scheduling with no weekends or holidays. Potential to learn and grow in hyperbaric medicine and wound care specialty.

What you will do

  • Controls compression and decompression rates during patient’s oxygen therapy/treatment, in accordance with Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology standards, department procedures and regulatory requirements for all areas of safe patient handling and safety procedures associated with hyperbaric medicine. * Completes daily chamber/diving logs related to equipment, staff and patients to maintain accurate files and records.
  • Provides daily maintenance and completes equipment logs of chamber and related equipment to ensure continuous twenty-four (24) hours of service. This includes on-call, after normal clinical hour coverage if assigned.
  • Monitors staff and patient safety both inside the hyperbaric chamber and outside the chamber. Makes decisions regarding the treatment of decompression sickness or air embolism in accordance with established standards of practice.
  • Assists department staff, participating in patient care, patient transfers, obtaining vital signs, performing wound care as directed, making patients comfortable and assisting with all aspects of the HBO/Wound Center’s daily operation.
  • Confers and works collaboratively with patient/family/hospital staff in a customer responsive and courteous manner, in compliance with iRESPECT standards and promoting patient/customer satisfaction to achieve positive patient outcomes.
  • Assists in the orientation of new staff members and students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.
  • Maintains established departmental policies, procedures, objectives, quality improvement, safety, environmental and infections control for administrative and compliance purposes. * Performs activities in compliance with all diving and hyperbaric medical technology standards, operating procedures, data entry and retrieval requirements. * Obtains and act on information quickly and accurately, and comprehend and make inferences from written materials such as operations manuals.
  • Maintains confidentiality in matters relating to patient/family, department and hospital information. Adheres to established department and organization policies (i.e. HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Compliance Policies).

Qualifications

  • High School graduate or equivalent Required and
  • Successful completion of an approved EMT, Paramedic, or LPN program required.
  • Associate's Degree of Applied Science Preferred
  • EMT - Emergency Medical Tech Required Or
  • PARAMEDIC - Paramedic –  Required or
  • LPN - Licensed Practical Nurse - State Licensure Upon Hire Required and
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification Upon Hire Required
  • Minimum 2 years experience of EMT, EMT Intermediate, or Paramedic experience required.
  • Experience in commercial/military/civilian diving Preferred
