Regulatory design & standards for hyperbaric chambers (mono & multi)

Francois Burman / Richard Barry: The PVHO Safety Standards are often assumed as being the purvey of the hyperbaric engineer and manufacturer. These are not drafted by a public, enforcement agency. Instead, a committee of elected industry experts and stakeholders, with experience in all aspects of hyperbaric and ancillary equipment, is tasked with investigating and developing crucial requirements for design and manufacture, and providing through-life recommendations to safe-guard all exposed to the risks of the hyperbaric environments. This lecture will provide a basic understanding on how these standards evolved, what they actually mean, how they are intended to apply to our industry, and the role of everyone engaged in our industry, all in the interests of the safety of staff, patients and the public. Additionally, this lecture will provide the audience with an understanding of NFPA 99 – Hyperbaric Facilities scope regarding monoplace hyperbaric chambers.
